Cedar Point’s Valravn Dive Coaster is Exhilarating

Cedar Point Raptor and Valravn

I don’t know a bigger Cedar Point enthusiast than my 3-year-old daughter. We can’t even watch Despicable Me 2 without a high-pitched shriek when the amusement park scene appears. “Loooooook! Cedar Point!” The only thing holding her back from being the biggest Cedar Point enthusiast is her 39″ height, which prohibits her from riding any coaster other than the Woodstock Express.

Inside Out - Riley's First Date

For the first time in forever, I went to see a movie in theaters. It wasn’t with my kids, but with a coworker, and we saw the movie Inside Out. I cried. Hard.

This wasn’t that long ago, so I’m kind of surprised that it’s already slated to hit shelves this fall (they’re quick these days!). Inside Out will be on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere October 13th and on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray Combo Pack and On-Demand November 3rd!

Bonus features on Digital HD*, Blu-ray Combo Pack & Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) include the all-new animated short “Riley’s First Date?” Here’s a hilarious sneak peek (at 0:51) that will resonate with moms and dads of little girls everywhere! Read more

I received press passes and a trip to NYC for #OrangeCon courtesy of Netflix.

In 2013, a series began on Netflix that not only tested network boundaries, but also shed light on the psychodynamics of prison culture. The past two years, we laughed, we cried, and we connected with the characters in Orange is the New Black. On Thursday, I’ll have the pleasure to meet the ladies behind the groundbreaking series at the first ever #OrangeCon. Read more

Cedar Point 2014 Season Starts Today!

I was provided with media passes to facilitate this post.

If you’ve ever been to Northern Ohio, I’ll bet you’ve made a stop at Cedar Point (if you haven’t you are SERIOUSLY missing out and you should plan a trip for this summer). Cedar Point is known to many as the roller coaster capital of the world because, well, it is. It boasts a record-breaking collection of 150 rides including 120-mph roller coasters that have 80-degree drops, Camp Snoopy for the littles, and the best funnel cakes I’ve ever enjoyed. You could spend the whole day there riding every roller coaster once (but you’ll probably want to ride them way more than just once).

Today marks the “unofficial” start of summer as Cedar Point opens its gates for the 2014 season. This weekend, guests will receive a complimentary Cedar Point VIP zip-up hoodie at the main entrance (upon exit, while supplies last). Since I am out of amusement park ride commission this season for this reason, my husband and brother-in-law had the daunting task to try out the two new rides for 2014 in my absence – Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles.

Pipe Scream

Billed as “combining the best of a roller coaster and a flat ride in one,” the new Pipe Scream spins riders along 302 feet of track, reaching a maximum height of 43 feet at speeds topping 40 mph.

Our take: This is a ride the whole family could enjoy together. Kids must be 42″ minimum to ride and riders between 42″ and 48″ must be accompanied by an adult or older friend/family member. It’s not your typical amusement park ride – it’s something different and new. We’d never been on a ride like it before! If you love the carnival loopdy-loop, spin rides, you’ll totally geek out on this flat ride/coaster hybrid. With only one car per ride, you may think that it would take forever for the line to move, but with approximately 48 riders per 3-minute ride, it moves pretty quick. A word of advice – don’t eat within 30 minutes of riding this unless you have a stomach of steel.

Lake Erie Eagles

The second “big premier” for 2014 is the Lake Erie Eagles in the Gemini Midway. Eight ride carriages are suspended from arms located more than 28 feet above the ground on the nest ride, Lake Erie Eagles. As the ride begins, the carriages swing outward simulating the sensation of flight. A paddle on the carriages allows riders to alter their flight experience from mild to WILD!

Our take: It’s science and fun in one! Little (and big) kids can control how the eagle flies with the help of a handle on the back of the eagle’s head and the good ‘ole wind. If you have a little one who craves motion and you don’t, you probably shouldn’t ride this together. Each carriage holds 1 adult or 1 adult and one child between 36″ – 44″ tall. What’s our favorite thing about this ride? Kids can’t take their seatbelt off on their own!

Plus, there are 6 additional NEW things to see and do at Cedar Point this summer:

  1. Chickie’s and Pete’s, one of the “ten Best Sports Bars” in the country and known for their legendary Crabfries ($6.50), opens.
  2. A full-service Starbucks finally makes it’s way into the park. WOOT!
  3. Camp Snoopy celebrates its 15th anniversary at Cedar Point this summer with the addition of two relocated kid-favorite rides – Woodstock’s Airmail (formerly Frog Hopper) and Wilderness Run (formerly Jr. Gemini).
  4. 52 new deluxe cabins will be added to Lighthouse Point this summer.
  5. An all-new lineup of music, dancing and a dazzling display of pyrotechnics in Luminosity: Ignite the Night will be performed nightly (except Tuesdays), May 30 – August 17.
  6. Later this summer, Cedar Point will take screaming to new heights when it opens its new SlingShot ride, where riders will be secured in an open-air two-person capsule before being launched nearly 360 feet into the sky at speeds of up to 62 mph!

The park will also feature a variety of new food options this summer including Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon in Challenge Park and new Coca-Cola Freestyle and Yogurt Plus locations along the Gemini Midway. Several new live shows will also debut this summer, including “Rockin’ Country” in the Red Garter Saloon, “Lusty Lil’s Revue”in the Palace Theatre and “Snoopy Unleashed” in the Good Time Theatre.

Cedar Point is open daily now through Labor Day and weekends in September and October. For hours of operation, visit cedarpoint.com. Tickets are $59.99 at the gate or $49.99 when purchased online.

Will you be heading to “America’s Roller Coast” this summer?
